Amendment 3: A Dangerous Step Backward for Women’s Health

Amendment 3 isn’t just about abortion—it’s about removing critical protections that safeguard women’s health and well-being. If this amendment passes, women will be put at greater risk due to vague language and eliminated safety standards. Disguised as a progressive movement for healthcare, this dangerous amendment actually threatens the rights and protections women deserve, which is why you need to vote No on Amendment 3.

What’s At Risk For Women?

No Reporting for Suspected Rape, Incest, or Trafficking

Amendment 3 eliminates the requirement for clinics to report suspected cases of rape, incest, or human trafficking, leaving victims in even more vulnerable situations. Without mandatory reporting, Missouri currently ranks 4th in the nation for trafficking and this crisis will spiral out of control if this amendment passes, allowing abusers to go undetected.

Non-Physicians Allowed to Authorize Abortions

Under Amendment 3, licensed physicians are no longer required to approve abortions. Instead, nurse practitioners and midwives—without the necessary medical training for high-risk procedures—can authorize abortions, even during the later stages of pregnancy. This dangerous lack of oversight puts women at serious risk of complications, disregarding basic safety standards.

Vague “Health” Exceptions

The amendment’s broad and undefined health exceptions allow abortions for emotional, psychological, or familial reasons, which are entirely subjective. This complete lack of scientific data justifies dangerous late-term abortions without any consistent medical oversight, which could lead to serious long-term effects for women.

Malpractice Protections Stripped Away

Amendment 3 removes a woman’s ability to sue for malpractice. If a woman suffers negligence during an abortion procedure, she will have no legal recourse to hold the responsible parties accountable, leaving victims of medical malpractice without justice. Even in cases of gross incompetence, women will be defenseless.

Why It Matters

Amendment 3 is more than a threat to women’s health—it’s a direct attack on their safety and legal rights. By stripping away protections like mandatory reporting of rape, incest, and trafficking, Missouri’s vulnerable women and girls are left exposed to exploitation by predators. The ramifications of this amendment passing is dire as traffickers will have an easier time hiding their crimes, clinics will face no obligation to protect their patients, and women will be unable to seek justice if they are harmed by negligent medical practices.

Amendment 3 Poses A Serious Threat To Missouri

Amendment 3 doesn’t just remove essential protections for women—it introduces a host of other dangerous changes that will harm women, children, and babies across our state. From removing parental rights, letting underage girls get abortions to allowing abortion into the 7th, 8th, and 9th month of pregnancy, the consequences are far-reaching.

It’s crucial to understand all the risks this amendment poses. Take action and get informed on the full scope of Amendment 3. Protect Missouri by learning more about the serious issues at stake, and vote No on Amendment 3 on November 5th!
